Once major race to take place over the weekend was the $200,000 Group Three Cockram Stakes (1400m), and it certainly lit up Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday afternoon.

Everyone loves an intriguing underdog story, and the 2010 Cockram Stakes is the first Black Listed race of the season to provide one with Rhythm In Paris running away with the honours.

The Bianconi mare beat a quality field in the 2010 Cockram Stales which secured her maiden Black Listed win, and trainer Jason Warren’s first victory at the prestigious track.

On Saturday morning it looked unlikely Rhythm In Paris would even jump in the race, although as fate would deem it there was a lucky scratching which earned the five-year-old a start.

The lightly raced mare took a spot in the middle of the field, and with jockey Ben Melham aboard stepped up a gear in the final straight to power home to claim the win.

The chestnut five-year-old has been plagued by injuries throughout her career, winning four from six and could be set for big things if she remains fit.

Response started from the perfectly drawn inside alley and took the lead from the jump, but could not top Rhythm In Paris’ last dash sprint and finished one-and-a-quarter lengths behind in second. Pre-race favourite Lady Lynette finished a further nose back in third.

Next up for the highly impressive winner of the 2010 Cockram Stakes Rhythm In Paris will be the $200,000 Group Two Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 4 at Flemington Racecourse.
