The action of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival will step up a notch as stars of the spring take to the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday afternoon on Golden Rose Day.
Nine horses at least three-years-old will jump in the $125,000 Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) at 2.40pm this Saturday afternoon, making for a thrilling race.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer has drawn perfectly with barrier one. The five-year-old ran a stunning first-up jump earlier this month in a barrier trial at Randwick, with the 2010 Concorde Stakes giving the Flying Spur mare her first start of the season.
Montana Flyer’s last serious jump was back in April, when she came a gallant third to Typhoon Tracy in the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m).
Just on her outside shoulder will be a strong competitor – the winner of the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) Winter King. The four-year-old gelding has won all of his last three starts, included the star-studded Stakes at Rosehill on August 14.
Peter Moody’s Reward For Effort in barrier five is another potential winner of the 2010 Concorde Stakes. The Group One Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) winner defeated a strong field in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) recently and is on firing form.
Other notable horses starting in the 2010 Concorde Stakes include six-year-old gelding McClintock and the More Than Ready mare Patronyme.
Also taking place this Saturday at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will be the headlining $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) which has seen 15 horses form the final field.
