Successful trainer Gai Waterhouse is more confident she can win the 2010 Cox Plate after Theseo won the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) with a superb run on Saturday.
Nine runners formed the final field at Randwick, but the weight-for-age powerhouse runner proved too classy as he claimed a length win.
Of all the accolades Waterhouse has claimed throughout her career she has never won a Cox Plate, but with Theseo proving so strong she certainly is in with a chance.
The 2010 Chelmsford Stakes champion defeated Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m) winner Metal Bender into second, with Purple in third by a further three-quarters of a length.
Waterhouse will keep Theseo in Sydney for the Group One George Main Stakes (1600m) on September 25 before sending him down to Melbourne and the bigger spring features.
Also taking place on Saturday was the Group Two Furious Stakes(1400m) which saw stablemate to Theseo more Strawberries triumph, and the Group Three Tramway Quality Handicap (1400m) along with five other great races.
