Melbourne Cup Odds Update

There is just over a month to go before the 2010 Melbourne Cup, which means the online betting sites are keeping themselves busy offering fans and punters the most up-to-date lines on the big event. A recent update of the Melbourne Cup odds has seen quite a shake-up as the stable of famed trainer Bart Cummings rises to the top of the betting markets.

Dariana jumped up in the markets with an impressive performance in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes held just two weeks ago.

Rising star Dariana is now an equal favourite to last year’s champion Shocking as both runners are listed at $10. The daughter of Redoute’s Choice jumped up in the markets with an impressive performance in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes held just two weeks ago. It was a race that pit the emerging Dariana against her Melbourne Cup rival Shocking. The four-year-old bay mare ran second to stable mate So You Think ($11) – another Cummings-trained favourite to take the Melbourne Cup. Shocking finished in fifth position.

This week’s Turnbull Stakes will see the two horses go up against one another once again for a shot at the Group 1 title. Dariana is generating plenty of buzz ahead of the $500,000 event as plenty of fans and punters consider her an early favourite. Odds on the Sunday, October 3 race come out later on this week.

The recent update also saw Cummings-trained Precedence move up in the odds as the five-year-old gelding is now listed at $11. This jump comes on the heels of an impressive finish in the JRA Cup in which the son of Zabeel took an impressive win.

Sans Frontieres rounds out the top five runners in the Melbourne Cup markets. The Jeremy noseda-trained horse is the favourite international runner and the only horse to date that has earned a ballot exemption for the 2010 Melbourne Cup. The five-year-old is currently in quarantine after recently confirming his trip to Australia to start in the upcoming event.

As there’s still a month to go before the 2010 Melbourne Cup, fans and punters can expect the field and markets to change quite a bit over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for all of the latest Melbourne Cup updates including the 2011 Melbourne Cup favourites.
