With just a few days to go before the 2010 Toorak Handicap jumps at Caulfield Racecourse, preparations are being made. This includes the announcement of the 2010 Toorak Handicap nominations. 19 quality gallopers have been nominated for the upcoming race.
Flemington based trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident in his Toorak Handicap chances as his four-year-old bay mare More Joyous is leading the field of potential runners.
Flemington based trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident in his Toorak Handicap chances as his four-year-old bay mare More Joyous is leading the field of potential runners. The daughter of More Than Ready is fresh off three consecutive first place finishes and looks fit to make this one her fourth.
An appearance in this upcoming Group 1 feature is not assured though as Waterhouse has also nominated More Joyous for the Yalumba Stakes to be held on the same day at Caulfield. If he chooses to run the mare in that Group 1 feature, it will mean an early (and much anticipated) showdown between the Waterhouse mare and Bart Cumming’s star So You Think.
Trainer John P Thompson is well represented in these nominations as he has three potential runners in the field, including recent Epsom Handicap (1600m) runner-up Trusting.
Training pair Mathrew Ellerton & Simon Zahra are hoping for a win from their quality mare Response. The four-year-old daughter of Charge Forward is showing promise and recently took first place over fellow Toorak Handicap nominee No Evidence Needed in the Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).
Other notable nominations include Dale Sutton’s La Rocket, Peter Snowden’s Kidnapped, Mark Riley’s Gold Salute, and Cummings’s Allez Wonder.
The 2010 Toorak Handicap is slated for this Saturday, October 9 at Caulfield Racecourse. Don’t forget to stay tuned for all of the latest information on this $350,000 Group 1 event, and check out all of the odds once they are released later on this week.
