The nominations for the 2010 Group 2 Schillaci Stakes were announced yesterday with 13 quality potential runners stepping forward. Mic Mac may be leading the field with a top handicapper rating, but most punters and enthusiasts will be looking to the Peter G Moody-trained Black Caviar.
Black Caviar remains unbeaten after a trial run at Cranbourne on the 20th of September.
The four-year-old brown mare remains unbeaten after a trial run at Cranbourne on the 20th of September. She is looking fit to take yet another win despite recently returning to the track. The daughter of Bel Spirit was sidelined after her tremendous Australia Stakes (1200m) win in January with a suspensory injury. Plenty will be hoping for a win from this mare because it means a clash between two of the strongest emerging talents in Australian racing. She could go on to face Hay List in not one, but two events later on this spring.
Scone based trainer Paul Messara is hoping that his quality gelding Mic Mac will be able to put a stop to the top mare’s winning ways. The five-year-old son of Statue of Liberty is leading the potential field in the handicapper rating and has had a couple of promising trial runs of his own. This includes a first place finish at the end of September.
Other notable potential runners in these nominations include John O’Shea’s Solar Charged, Lee Freedman’s First Command, Patrick Lee’s Good Control, and Danny O’Brien’s Star Witness.
The 2010 Schillaci Stakes will be one of nine races to be held at Caulfield this Saturday, October 9. Don’t forget to also check out the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), Toorak Handicap (1600m), and Yalumba Stakes (2000m).
