Profound Beauty Ready For Melbourne Cup

International representation for this year’s Melbourne Cup is becoming all the more prevalent with another overseas runner confirming a trip to Melbourne in time for the November 2 event.

Profound Beauty is no stranger to the Melbourne Cup as she appeared in the $6 million event in 2008, running fifth to Viewed.

Irish trainer Dermot Weld announced on Monday that Proufound Beauty would make the trip to Melbourne with eyes on the Cup. The decision was made after a conversation with the family of owner Mr Walter Haefner. The seven-year-old bay mare will undergo all necessary screenings, including blood work and x-rays, to ensure she’s fit to compete in the upcoming event. She is expected to be cleared and board a plane bound for Australia on Sunday, October 10 – the last allowable flight under quarantine rules.

Profound Beauty is no stranger to the Melbourne Cup as she appeared in the $6 million event in 2008, running fifth to Viewed. She is still a major contender for such big racing events as she has continued to show promise throughout this spring. This includes an impressive performance in her most recent outing at the Irish St Leger (2800m). She ran second to fellow overseas Melbourne Cup runner Sans Frontieres.

The Irish runner will arrive on Tuesday with three Goldolphin runners – Campanolotist, Eastern Aria, and Holberg. She is listed as the fifth favourite to win the 2010 Melbourne Cup as she is tied with Manighar at $17.00 odds at Sportsbet.
