Black Caviar Set To Substitute Track Gallop For 2012 Lightning Stakes

Black Caviar is expected to contest the 2012 Lightning Stakes at Flemington racecourse on Saturday February 18, 2012.

The unbeaten super mare is will be looking to win her 18th unbeaten race start in the race, providing she wins her first-up race in the CF Orr Stakes on January 27, 2011.

The 2012 Lightning Stakes will be run over a distance of 1,000 metres and under weight-for-age conditions.

The race is worth $750,000 in prize money and is a Group 1 race.

Trainer Peter Moody believes the 2012 Lightning Stakes will suit Black Caviar because she was already set to have a track gallop that morning before her next start in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes.

“In the week between the Orr and Futurity there is the Lightning Stakes over 1000m,” Moody said.

“It might be a good option because she would probably be having a gallop over 1000m that morning to get ready for the Futurity.”

Black Caviar has won all 16 of her race starts and has earned almost $4.3 million in prize money during her career.

The five-year-old mare is rated as the best sprinter in the world.
