With the return of Black Caviar in the Australia Stakes this Friday it’s easy to overlook an exciting little Listed contest taking place a little further north.
The 2012 Sunshine Coast Cup will be run on Friday night, a rare meeting under lights in Caloundra around an hour north of Brisbane.
The race is a Listed contest and worth $100,000 making it one of the biggest races held on the Sunshine Coast all year.
A field of 12 has been accepted for but this could change over the next day or so.
The Sunshine Coast has received an absolute hammering from the weather gods this week, in fact it’s been worse there than in Brisbane.
While the guts of the storm have headed south rain continues to fall and the state of the track will certainly be called into question.
In fact with racing almost certainly to be called off at Doomben on Saturday it’d be a huge effort were it to go ahead on the Sunshine Coast this Friday.
Nevertheless we’ll work forward assuming it is until we hear any word otherwise.
