Malasun has made her racing debut in style, winning the 2012 Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield racecourse yesterday.
The two-year-old filly won the Blue Diamond Preview 2012 by 1.3 lengths ahead of Members Joy, who finished second, and Sabie, who placed third.
Malasun posted the fasted finishing time out of both Blue Diamond Preview races and is now third favourite for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at LuxBet paying $8.
BC3 Syndications purchased the filly at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne for $80,000 after winning the bidding against now-trainer Mick Price.
“Mick was on the horse at the sales as well and he jumped off for us and let us buy him, so we gave him the horse to train,” said BC3′s chief executive Bill Vlahos.
Jockey Damien Oliver was thrilled with Malasun’s winning performance in the 2012 Blue Diamond Preview.
“She is very quick but there was good speed there today and a couple of quality fillies she was chasing,” Oliver said.
“We didn’t know how she would go racing in behind them but she really knuckled down and did well to run them down.
“She is a real professional and a nice, scopey filly.
“She’s qualified now (for the Blue Diamond) and all they have to do is look after her for the next month.”
The 2012 Blue Diamond Preview win has added a sizeable $60,000 in prize money to Malasun’s kitty.
