The 2012 CS Hayes Stakes field is all about one horse, Helmet, as he starts his final preparation in Australia before being sent to Godolphin in the UK.
Helmet runs first up over the 1410m trip on his way to the Australian Guineas before tackling the might of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.
He’ll be a short priced favourite for the CS Hayes Stakes given he comes in with such a huge record in this distance range against the countries best three year olds.
He has a handicap rating of 112 and will carry the top weight of 57.5kg.
The closest to him in terms of rating is Sabrage on 93 but he earned that through his Victoria Derby placing meaning he’s unlikely to have the speed to compete over this trip.
That’s the case for a few of these horses with not a lot of genuine 1400m types among them.
Decircles is one of them though, he ran a nice fifth in open grade first up and he’ll come here as one of the few who might be able to push Helmet all the way.
Instinction is another with those credentials, he won his last two in the spring and this time in he’s kept that alive with a first up victory.
Against him is the fact he only has a 1kg weight advantage on Helmet while Decircles boasts 3.5kg.
There’s a few short priced favourites on the Flemington card this Saturday and Helmet promises to be another in the CS Hayes Stakes.
He’s far from a shoe in though and if you like to back an upset this could be the race to have a go on.
