Coolmore Stud Stakes

The Coolmore Stud Stakes is a Group 1 horse race taking place annually at the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne. It is held by the Victorian Racing Club (VRC) on Victoria Derby Day in October with prize money of $500,000. It is a race for three year-olds at set weights and spans 1,200 metres. Races to look out for in regards to horse form for the Coolmore Stud Stakes is the Caulfield Guineas (1,600m), with many similar entrants in both events.

Coolmore Stud Stakes History

The first Coolmore Stud Stakes was run in 1933 and won by Shakuni, back then it was known as the Ascot Vale Stakes, not finding its current name until 2007. From its inception to 1965 the event was run by two year-olds in the Autumn, it changed in 1969 to its current format. Since 2006 the Coolmore Stud Stakes found its Group 1 status having previously been a Group 2 race.
