Mackinnon Stakes History
The LKS Mackinnon Stakes was first run in 1869 with Glencoe taking the top spot. Prior to 1936, the race was known as the Melbourne Stakes, but was changed to LKS Mackinnon Stakes in honour of former chairman of the Victoria Racing Club L.K.S. Mackinnon. The most successful horse of the event is Tranquil Star, the only horse to have won the race three times (1942, 1944, and 1945). The fastest time for the LKS Mackinnon Stakes is 2.00.30 by Rogan Josh in 1999.
