Myer Classic History

First run in 1988, and won by Concordance, the Myer Classic was originally known as ‘The Honda Legend’ and did not come to find its current name until 2005 having had various other titles (Honda Legend, Hong Kong Bank Stakes, Hardy Brothers Classic and Nestle Peters Classic). From its inception the Myer Classic was known as a Listed Race until 1995 when it became Group 3, two years later it became Group 2, and since 2004 has had its Group 1 status. When it first began, the Myer Classic was only open to mares, and was run as a set weight race with penalties until 2003.
