The $125,000 Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) lit up Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday, as it formed part of the illustrious Golden Rose Stakes Day.

A top quality field of nine horses lined up for the 2010 Concorde Stakes, which resulted in the Peter Moody-trained Reward For Effort claiming the winning honours.

The solid victory backed up the four-year-olds win in the 2010 John Monash Stakes last month, and secured his return to racing after recovering from an injury.

Champion jockey Nash Rawiller took to the hot seat on Saturday afternoon, and guided the Blue Diamond Stakes winner to the lead off the jump.

Winter King kept abreast for the majority of the race from barrier two and finished strong. The four-year-old gelding finished two lengths back in second, with the John Thompson-trained Trusting embracing the spring racing and finishing in third.

Moody is convinced Reward For Effort has another Group One win in him, and has pencilled in the $500,000 Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) on September 24 as a possible target. Whether or not the four-year-old will jump prior to that has not yet been decided.

One of the pre race favourites Patronyme failed to impress spectators in the 2010 Concorde Stakes, finishing back in eighth. Jockey Corey Brown said it was a disappointing result from the More Than Ready Mare.

Also taking place on Saturday as part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival was the headlining $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) which saw Toorak Toff claim the win alongside six other thrilling races.

The action of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival will step up a notch as stars of the spring take to the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday afternoon on Golden Rose Day.

Nine horses at least three-years-old will jump in the $125,000 Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) at 2.40pm this Saturday afternoon, making for a thrilling race.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer has drawn perfectly with barrier one. The five-year-old ran a stunning first-up jump earlier this month in a barrier trial at Randwick, with the 2010 Concorde Stakes giving the Flying Spur mare her first start of the season.

Montana Flyer’s last serious jump was back in April, when she came a gallant third to Typhoon Tracy in the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m).

Just on her outside shoulder will be a strong competitor – the winner of the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) Winter King. The four-year-old gelding has won all of his last three starts, included the star-studded Stakes at Rosehill on August 14.

Peter Moody’s Reward For Effort in barrier five is another potential winner of the 2010 Concorde Stakes. The Group One Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) winner defeated a strong field in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) recently and is on firing form.

Other notable horses starting in the 2010 Concorde Stakes include six-year-old gelding McClintock and the More Than Ready mare Patronyme.

Also taking place this Saturday at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse will be the headlining $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) which has seen 15 horses form the final field.

This Saturday the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) will headline the Spring Carnival action taking to Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Scheduled to jump just before 4pm, the 2010 Golden Rose will see 15 three-year-olds compete, and it’s certainly lining up to be a thriller.

Runner up in the $125,000 Group Three Run To The Rose (1300m) Masquerader has drawn perfectly in barrier two. The three-year-old colt ran beautifully in the Run To The Rose, and will look for revenge on the winner – Squamosa.

Squamosa has drawn wide with barrier 14, but despite the disadvantage, will certainly be a strong contender.

The 2010 Golden Rose will present the Gai Waterhouse-trained colt with his biggest challenge yet – to extend his unbeaten record to four wins, against a quality field.

Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily has also drawn wide with barrier 10. The autumn carnival champion has already accumulated more than $2.3 million in prizemoney over her eight-start career, and will be a strong runner on Saturday afternoon.

Toorak Toff will return to quality racing in the 2010 Golden Rose. The colt is a favourite among horseracing enthusiasts and will look to add to his previous four wins from barrier nine.

Other notable runners to start in the 2010 Golden Rose are the Clarry Conners-trained Decision Time, Chance Bye in barrier three, Gerald Ryan’s Hinchinbrook and Quezette Stakes winner Panipique.

Also taking place this Saturday alongside the 2010 Golden Rose will be the $125,000 Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) and six other thrilling races.

The Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes saw a handy field of three-year-old fillies take to the Warwick Farm Racecourse on Saturday, with an emphatic first up win giving Parables full honours.

Trained by Peter Snowden, the three-year-old was sent to spell earlier in April after another gallant run at Randwick. With Tim Clark aboard, the stunning finish by the duo certainly fulfilled the trainers’ expectations.

Sired by Lonhro, Parables took to barrier eight for the jump and was guided beautifully by Clark in the hot seat.

The pair got trapped at the back of the field off the jump. However the champion hoop directed his mount to the inside of the track – a notoriously dangerous area – which charged through from the 200 metre mark to finish first.

Down the finishing straight Parables sent leader Solar Charged in to second place by a length, with Chance Bye back in third a further half-length back.

The John O’Shea-trained Solar Charged looked to have won the 2010 Silver Shadow Stakes, but saw runner up spot again – the place she claimed in her return to racing at the San Domenico Stakes.

It was a stunning start from the Charge Forward filly and with Nash Rawiller in the hot seat, the pair embarked on a three length lead from Chance Bye off the jump.

Third-placed Chance Bye could be targeted for a jump in next week’s feature the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Snowden was thrilled with the run by Parables, and will send the filly through the remainder of the Princess Series with a jump in the Group Two Furious Stakes (1400m) on September 4, the Group Two The Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) on September 18 and then the spring target – the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 2.

The emerging filly certainly sent a devastating warning to her spring rivals, so follow her campaign right here at Horseraces.com.au!

Apprentice jockey Blake Spriggs took to the saddle and guided Squamosa perfectly as he directed Squamosa to the front off the jump. The 2010 The Run To The Rose win resulted in both the Not A Single Doubt colts and Spriggs maiden Group victory.

When the field began to straighten out Testarhythm and Circle Of Power looked on target to create the upset but Spriggs kept his cool with the reins in hand. The young rider didn’t react to the pressure, holding off until the remaining 300 metres before urging the colt forward.

Squamosa held off a late surge from the previously unbeaten colt Masquerader to win by just over a length.

Trained by David Payne, Masquerader claimed second spot but left Payne reeling for a rematch. Hoop Glyn Schoffield dropped his inside rein on the 300m line, which Payne believes lost them the win.

The two will face each other once again when the Rosehill Racecourse hosts one of its spring features – the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on August 28.

Darren Smith’s Testarhythm and Peter Snowden’s Classics claimed third and fourth respectively.

Also taking place at Rosehill on Saturday were seven other superb races forming the next stint in Sydney’s Spring Racing Carnival.

This Saturday is a real taste of the superb Spring racing to come, with meetings at Caulfield, Rosehill, Doomben, Morphettville, and Belmont.

It’s the biggest weekend of racing in a long time, with four Group races including the Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes, Group 3 Spring Stakes, the Group 3 Cockram Stakes, and the Group 3 Run to the Rose.

Caulfield Racecourse will play host to 8 races on Saturday. These will include the JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) race 6 and the Cockram Stakes (1200m) race 7. Three more listed races will also be run, including the Lister Diesel Engines Vain Stakes (1100m) race 3, the Legacy Badge Appeal Quezzette Stakes (1100m) race 4, and the Anniversary of The End of World War 2 Stakes (1200m) race 5.

Rosehill Racecourse will feature a full card of 8 races on Saturday starting with the Run to the Rose (1300m). The Run to the Rose is the traditional preparation race for the Golden Rose, a Group 1 race over 1400m.

Morphettville Racecourse has the Spring Stakes (1200m) race 6 set to run on Saturday, a great teaser for the beginning of Spring racing. The Spring Stakes is the highlight of a 7 race card.

Doomben Racecourse will feature 7 races and Belmont Racecourse will feature a full 8 race card, but neither meet has any Group events scheduled.

This Saturday the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival will continue at the city’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse through the running of the $125,000 Group Three The Run To The Rose (1300m).

Thirteen three-year-olds will start the 2010 The Run To The Rose, with Masquerader a potential winner if he does indeed start.

Trainer David Payne implied the Lucky Owners colt could be scratched if the wet weather continues in the New South Wales capital.

Testarhythm in barrier eight has not been nominated for the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on August 28, but trainer Darren Smith said if the Testa Rossa colt wins this Saturday the $50,000 late entry fee would get paid.

The lead up to the 2010 The Run To The Rose has seen controversy around Hinchinbrook’s defector. Trainer Gerald Ryan was not happy with the colt having to carry 59.5 kilograms so instead will see the three-year-old jump in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

Other feature races taking place this weekend include the $200,000 Group Two JJ Liston Stakes (1400m), the Group Three Cockram Stakes (1400m) and the Group Three Spring Stakes (1200m).

Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse saw some potential spring stars emerge when they hit the track on Tuesday with 11 trials taking place over the course of the day.

The trials set up a lock of horns between two of Sydney’s upcoming youngsters; Masquerader and Solar Charge.

The trials set up a lock of horns in the upcoming Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m) on the 7th of August between two of Sydney’s upcoming youngsters; Masquerader and Solar Charge.

Trained by John O’Shea, Solar Charged won her trial by a hugely impressive seven-and-a-half lengths paired with hoop Corey Brown to make her one of the standouts of the day.

The two-year-old filly proved she is a strong sprinter taking the lead early over the 900 metres and slowly created a greater distance between herself and Darya Ye Noor back in second.

Masquerader, another two-year-old and trained by David Payne, also jumped well on Tuesday defeating Faithful Beau by a length with apprentice jockey Nathan Berry in the saddle who kept his composure after being tied up in the crowd to speed home.

The winner of the Group Two Todman Stakes (1200m) in March is still unbeaten and after a superb Autumn campaign had to pull out of the Golden Slipper due to injury.

Hinchinbrook also impressed in with his trial win – the first jump the Gerald Ryan-trained colt has had in his most recent campaign – with a one-and-a-quarter length win over Riva de Lago.

The two-year-old sired by Fastnet Rock will start off his spring racing carnival on the 14th of August in the Group Three The Run To The Rose (1300m), and will once again be paired with experienced jockey Blake Shinn, so make sure you head to SportsBet if you want to back the youngster.

The two-time stakes winner will undergo another trial before the 2010 Run To The Rose, with the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) the ultimate target on the 28th of August.

If Hinchinbrook proves himself in Sydney over the 1,600 metre mark he will then head to the heart of the spring racing action in Melbourne where the Group Three Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on the 18th of September and ultimately the $1 million Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on the 9th of October the major spring goal.

So if you want to make the most of the upcoming spring action, head to SportsBet and you can sign up within minutes so you can open yourself up to the profitable world of online punting with the best odds and markets on offer!

Another day closer to the jumping of the Spring Racing Carnivals in both Sydney and Melbourne, and another day of trials down at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

There are twelve events going ahead, all but one of which are over 900 metres, and there are certainly names to draw the eye.

Yesterday saw some new up-and-comers for the spring season revealed as they proved their worth on the Kensington track, and today will surely provide another batch for fans and punters to keep an eye on for the spring.

There are twelve events going ahead, all but one of which are over 900 metres, and there are certainly names to draw the eye.

Danleigh will be in the second trail of the day, and the Chris Waller-trained six-year-old has not raced since the Group One All Aged Stakes (1400m) in April where he finished seventh.

The 2009 Group One Manikato Stakes winner may well start in the same event this year; however Waller seems set to keep the gelding in Sydney over the spring, with the Group Three Missile Stakes (1100m) on the 31st of July his first jump.

The path of the spring will follow the traditional weight-for-age route leading Danleigh to the Group Two Warwick Stakes with the Chelmsford Stakes and George Main Stakes the final targets.

Hinchinbrook is another runner today, and the Gerald Ryan-trained colt has had a fair amount of attention as the spring rolls around, so it will be interesting to see how the colt handles the pressure.

After forming a strong bond with the horse, hoop Blake Shinn has been announced as the man to ride Hinchinbrook over the spring, and looks as though the campaign will begin on the 14th of August at the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) with a possible follow up in the Golden Rose.

Monday’s trials saw Gai Waterhouse pleased with her work, as Theseo, Herculian Prince, Descarado and Cannonball all proved themselves as particularly strong spring racing carnival forces for 2010.

If you want to make sure you make the most of your bets over the spring, sign up with SportsBet, as every race going on in both Sydney and Melbourne will have the most lucrative of odds on offer – so make sure you do not miss out!
