The Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne is one of the city’s most famous racing tracks. Only eight kilometres from Melbourne’s city centre and nicknamed ‘The Heath’ it borders Caulfield and is owned by the Melbourne Racing Club. With a triangular shape, the course has three straights after a reconstruction which widened the track to 30 metres, increasing its circumference by 43 metres. Races flow anti-clockwise and can be fully viewed in the Rupert Clarke stand which is fully glassed-in giving protection to spectators whatever the weather.

Caulfield Racecourse History
Originally built in 1859, proper racing at the Caulfield Racecourse did not occur until 1876. Three years later the track hosted its first Caulfield Cup, a staple date in Australia’s horse racing calendar to this day. During the War, the Cup moved to the Flemington Racecourse, due to Caulfield shutting down and being used as an army camp. More recently, the course was closed for a year in 1995 due to reconstruction, expanding the width to 30 metres.
