The Spring Champion Stakes is a Group 1 horse race held at the Randwick Racecourse in Sydney every October. As part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival it is a set-weight event for three-year-olds over 2,000 metres and has total prize money of $400,000. As a set-weight race, colts and geldings must carry 56.5kg, and fillies 54.5kg. The Stakes is held on Epsom Handicap Day, an elite fixture in the Carnival.

Spring Champion Stakes History
The Spring Champion Stakes was first run in 1971 as a Principal race with Gay Icarus taking out the honours. It soon became a Group 1 event as eight years after its inception the race was granted the top billing. In 2001 the Spring Champion Stakes was raced over 1,800 metres, and was not held in 2007.
